Tara Thomas is a clinical psychologist who is passionate about helping adolescents, adults and couples create positive changes in themselves, their relationships and their lives.  Tara is committed to evidence-based practice and has experience in the psychological treatment of anxiety, depression, trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, eating disorders and perfectionism. She is also experienced in working with family and relationship difficulties and she particularly enjoys helping clients improve their relationships.

Tara has a keen interest in treating body image concerns and eating disorders. As part of her Masters degree she completed research evaluating the efficacy of school-based eating disorder prevention programs and she has also undertaken research examining different types of perfectionism. She has significant experience working with a range of presentations and ages in private practice and she also holds experience providing individual and group treatment for inpatients and outpatients in the Weight Disorder Unit in one of South Australia's major tertiary hospitals.

Tara’s therapy approach is based on principles of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Mindfulness based cognitive interventions, as well as incorporating elements of techniques such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy (ST), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Tara has also completed couples therapy training in the Gottman Method and EFT for couples.

Tara completed her Honours in Psychology (First Class) and her Masters in Clinical Psychology at Flinders University, Adelaide. Tara is a fully registered Clinical Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA).
